O CANTO DA BALEIA
A poetic, participatory audiovisual concert experience on ecology and imagination
In this interdisciplinary music theatre piece, a blue whale dives into the ocean, discovering a world full of sound, light, and wonder—until it reaches the polluted sea floor. As a mermaid struggles with a ghost net, the young audience witnesses a transformation: from beauty to environmental warning, from soundscape to storm.
Three musicians and a visual artist use live music and overhead projection to create a magical underwater world. Water becomes an artistic medium; light, shadow, and music tell a story that is both accessible and profound. The performance includes participatory moments such as a “garbage batucada” and a musical “Call & Response”, inviting children to co-create rhythms and songs.
The musical repertoire spans a wide cultural and stylistic range—from De Bentu (Sardinia), Daglar Gibi (Turkey), and Samba de Coco (Brazil), to Kanonische Sonaten by Telemann, original world music compositions, and even a playful reinterpretation of Toxic by Britney Spears.
O Canto da Baleia is a tour-ready production designed to support concert halls in engaging their youngest audiences while addressing the pressing issues of our time – through art, empathy, and imagination.
