BZZZ
An interdisciplinary performance for young audiences about the life of honey bees.
BZZZ is a poetic and immersive performance that introduces young audiences to the fascinating world of honey bees. How do bees communicate? Why are honeycombs hexagonal? What role do bees play in our ecosystem—and how are they affected by environmental pollution and climate change?
These and other scientific questions are explored through a unique artistic experience created by two musicians, a dancer, and a visual artist. Following the course of the seasons, the performance combines live music, dance, and real-time illustration on an overhead projector, enhanced by video projection, to bring the buzzing and humming life of bees to the stage.
The musical repertoire reflects the diversity of nature and human culture, ranging from a traditional Tarantella from Apulia and Maloya from Réunion Island to Zefiro torna by Monteverdi and old folk songs from Germany.
The production encourages active audience engagement through playful, interactive elements: children are invited to explore instruments, sing, move, and draw. The interdisciplinary approach fosters early curiosity, emotional awareness, and creative expression—key elements of early audience development.
BZZZ is created with sustainability in mind: the mobile stage set fits into a single suitcase, and recycled or repurposed materials are used throughout. The minimal use of language and strong visual and musical storytelling make the piece accessible across cultures and languages.
